Lender of Last Resort (LLR)

A Lender of Last Resort (LLR) is a guarantor or lender that agrees to make Stafford or PLUS Loans (both graduate and parent) to borrowers who are eligible under the program guidelines, but who have been denied a conventional loan by at least 1 lender.

American Student Assistance® (ASA) is the designated LLR for Massachusetts and D.C.

If you are denied a conventional loan, contact your school first to see if they can connect you with a different lender. If they cannot, ASA can help.

If you need more information about the LLR program, see our list of frequently asked questions about LLR. If your question is not answered there, you can always contact us.
