Taking fiscal responsibility to the streets
As part of our public purpose mission, American Student Assistance® is preparing the next generation of student loan borrowers for the responsibilities and benefits of loan ownership. Here’s how we’re doing it:
- Attending financial aid nights for high school seniors and their parents.
- Offering free college planning, financial aid and career counseling at branches of the Boston Public Library and at Massachusetts Educational Opportunity Centers.
- Conducting a financial literacy pilot program for the public high schools in Massachusetts.
- Partnering with Reach4Success (formerly the College Information Center) in Washington, D.C. to meet the needs of low-income, first-generation college students.
- Reaching out to high school guidance counselors.
- Publishing a student loan advice column in key newspapers throughout the country.
