Important Industry Research

Partnership Dialogue Series: A Focus on Communication (pdf, 1.85 MB) explores the current communication challenges financial aid officers (FAOs) face in dealing with students and their families. American Student Assistance® (ASA) and FAOs from across the country came together for 9 sessions during this Partnership Dialogue Series. Because of the nature of the series—more discussion and a focus group format rather than training sessions—a lot of information was uncovered regarding technology trends, available research, experiences and initiatives, concerns, and goals. Driven by its mission to assist borrowers and their families in successfully completing a program of higher education financing and repayment, ASA shares what it collected from these meetings. You may download the full report (pdf, 1.85 MB).

Student Debt and Alumni Giving (pdf, 712 KB), a study commissioned by American Student Assistance, examines the correlations between students’ education debt and their likelihood to donate to their alma mater. The study revealed that student borrowers strongly desire financial literacy training. Students’ satisfaction with the helpfulness of the Financial Aid Office, with respect to debt management information, influenced alumni giving.
