Spreading Wellness in the Community

At American Student Assistance, we’re dedicated to empowering students and families through financial knowledge. This dedication extends far beyond the borrowers whose loans we guarantee. We believe that the success of our mission—to provide student loan borrowers with the education and encouragement they need to effectively manage their debt—has beneficial ramifications for the entire community. And to ensure positive outcomes for the broadest population possible, ASA works in cooperation with outreach organizations to bring sound financial principles and sensible debt management into neighborhoods across the country.

A main component of our outreach efforts is spreading ASA Wellness: keeping student loan borrowers financially healthy and in good credit standing by proactively helping them manage their debt. Instead of waiting for borrowers to encounter difficulties, ASA broadly defines “proactive” to include educating middle school and high school students—and their parents, who play a crucial role in saving for school, paying for it, and teaching future students financial responsibility.

Arm-in-arm with fellow non-profit organizations like TERI College Access in Massachusetts and Reach4Success in Washington, D.C., and even collaborating with local public schools, we carry out innovative programs that provide future borrowers with the tools to make wise fiscal decisions, take on the appropriate type and amount of debt for their means, and build a plan for a bright future.

The community outreach organizations with whom we collaborate provide us with access to a pool of students and families who have a pressing need for financial information. ASA, in turn, offers expertise in communicating a message of fiscal responsibility tailored to this unique audience, and supplies the resources to answer their needs.

We invite you to explore some of ASA’s relationships with community outreach organizations and learn how we truly pursue our commitment to making a difference in the community every day.
