American Student Assistance’s public purpose mission centers our activities around solid portfolio management. Thanks to an improved business model made possible by our Voluntary Flexible Agreement, our success as an organization is directly tied to the performance of the student loans within our portfolio. Moving forward, we believe management of the nation’s federal student loan portfolio to be our primary responsibility and we are committed to building this core competency company-wide. Today, 96% of all loans in our portfolio are in good standing with on-time payments.

Portfolio analysis and segmentation

We understand the makeup of our portfolio. And we know that some borrowers are going to need more of a helping hand than others when it comes to managing the repayment process. We use sophisticated risk assessment tools, scoring models, and other analysis techniques to identify those segments of our portfolio most likely to require additional outreach and assistance.

Advanced communication and ongoing support

Once we’ve identified the special needs of our borrowers, we create customized communications and support channels that deliver the right repayment information at the right time and in the right format. And building trust with our borrowers is producing positive repayment results.
