National and Regional Disaster Data Match
Guarantors are starting to see borrowers defaulting who were located in the areas affected by hurricanes Katrina and Rita, simply because we do not have a resource for contacting these borrowers at their new location to offer counseling on repayment options. As a component to business continuity planning, we recommend that the Department pursue a data match with FEMA to secure addresses and telephone numbers of affected borrowers in the event of a national or regional disaster.
